We define a "writing challenge" as any goal you set for yourself. You can participate in one of the global group writing challenges we run (such as NaNoWriMo in November or Camp NaNoWriMo in April and July), a challenge created as part of a class you take or youth writing program you belong to, or a personal challenge of your own creation.
Before starting a challenge, you
- To start a challenge that is tied to a new project, begin by deciding where your project will reside.
- To participate in a challenge as part of a class, make sure you have been granted access to your classroom by entering the code your teacher provided. Once this is complete, locate your classroom space on your dashboard. Once inside your classroom, you can create a new project and participate as part of your group.
- To participate independently in NaNoWriMo or Camp NaNoWriMo, locate the "Take the Challenge" module on your dashboard and click the “Yes, start a new novel for it!” button.
- To participate independently in a challenge of your own creation, locate the "Challenge Yourself" module on your dashboard and click the “Yes, start a new novel for it!” button.
- To create a new challenge within a project you’ve already started, just click the "Continue working on a novel I've already started" button in the challenge invite box on the Dashboard or View All Novels page. You can also open up the novel and click the “Yes” button in the “My Word-Count Challenge” box.
The only rule is that you can only have ONE active or upcoming challenge per novel. You have to either finish (or abandon) your current or upcoming challenge before you can set a new one. To abandon a challenge, open up the novel in your writing space, then click the wrench next to the challenge's name to change your settings.
